Wakolda Reviews

After the screenings at the Cannes Film Festival, reviews have been mostly favorable:

Wakolda

By Mark Adams, chief film critic

A gently striking and achingly tense drama, Lucia Puenzo’s impressively made Wakolda is set against the beautifully bleak backdrop of Patagonia of 1960 where an intense Nazi physician seeks to get close to a model Argentinean family who reawaken his dark obsession for genetic purity and perfection.

Based on her own novel, writer/director Lucia Puenzo (whose acclaimed film XXY won the Grand {Prix of Critics Week in 2007) uses rumours and myths around infamous Nazi doctor Josef Mengele, who spent time in the remote Argentine region of Bariloche where he worked as a veterinarian and secretly continued his research buying blood sample of pregnant women.

Puenzo’s fascination with the period and the Argentinean government opening its doors to many Nazi is evident as she impressively crafts an atmosphere of secrecy and mistrust in amongst the German speaking community, some of whom clearly have deep, dark secrets.

Wakolda film review #Cannes2013

Wakolda is the 3rd feature film by Argentine director Lucia Puenzo, up for an award at the 66th Cannes Film Festival as part of the Un certain regard selection

Wakolda is a small 12-year old girl with porcelain skin, deep blue eyes, candy red lips, golden locks and a slim agile frame. But her body doesn’t grow as it should and ends up rekindling one man’s obsession with perfection.

The man in question is Josef Mengele, a Nazi doctor found guilty of war crimes who fled before he could be judged.

Lynch Season 1 Recap

Moviecity posted the full recap of the first season of Lynch on YouTube. Enjoy:

Welcome to Dazzling Natalia Oreiro!

Welcome back to Dazzling Natalia Oreiro, your online source for everything Natalia Oreiro!

It took less time than I anticipated to get back in the website-world. In order to avoid a new burnout, I made some decisions such as:
- No more episode captures for Solamente Vos. It’s not the capping, but sorting through 4 episodes per week was sapping all my motivation.
- Also, no more posters and synopsis posts for Solamente Vos. Only productions stills and behind the scenes, also a few words about the episode. The posters will be uploaded in the gallery, but no more first page announcements.

I’ve tried out this way for the last week. Also, I changed the layout from the temporary version. It’s a variation of that design, but I like it more, especially the gallery seems less crowded.

For the bad news, I lost a great deal of the back-up I made back in April (always back-up when you partition – no exceptions), including the databases. You’ll also notice the lack of screen captures in the gallery.

The goal is to bring you all the news and info regarding Natalia’s career, without infringing on her right to privacy. This means no candids, except on set images. You’ll also find here video interviews, events pictures, photoshoots, magazine scans, film and television screen captures and more. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter, for more news and updates.

Enjoy your stay and come back soon!

Clarin Espectaculos Scans

After the successful world premiere of Wakolda at the Cannes Film Festival on May 21, Clarin published a short interview with Natalia and Diego Peretti. I have added 2 scans and you can read the full interview, in spanish, at Clarin.com.

Oreiro and Peretti, the marriage

Natalia Oreiro and Diego Peretti, because of their television work in Buenos Aires, couldn’t be on the red carpet. But before they spoke with “Clarin” about the couple they play in “Wakolda”, after sharing the big screen in “Musica en Espera”.

What expectations do you have from “Wakolda” competing in Cannes?

Oreiro: It took me by surprise, I didn’t expect to have another film in Cannes for the second year in a row! (last year she had “Clandestine Childhood”, but in the Directors’ Fortnight). I haven’t seen the finished movie, I saw some scenes while dubbing.

Wakolda New Photos and Official Site

The official movie site is now open at Wakolda.com and new photos were released. I’ve added 2 stills and 4 behind the scenes photos:

Love stories that end and love stories that are being consolidated

Julieta’s wedding is drawing near and Juan is very anxious. Victoria accompanies him to buy a good suit to officiate as the weeding’s godfather. Chance -or the inevitable fate- “stubbornly” puts Cousteau and Aurora in the same place again: she’s also looking for an outfit for the ceremony. And the attraction between them will be unstoppable. The beautiful lawyer is convinced that it’s time to say goodbye and leave the way clear for her beloved Juan and the hairdresser. Alex Ubago will sing to give Cousteau courage.
